Former Ateneo standout Thirdy Ravena will stay and play in Japan after re-signing for another year with San-En NeoPhoenix.
Ravena, 26, signed the new contract with the Japan B.League squad on Wednesday, June 14, the team announced on its Facebook page.
Ravena was the first ever Filipino player to be signed under the league’s new system of Asian Player Quota’s that involve Asian imports.
His Gilas Pilipinas teammate, Dwight Ramos likewise extended his stay after re-signing with Levanga Hokkaido last week.
Among the prominent Filipinos playing in Japan are Kai Sotto, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., newcomer Robert Bolick, Matthew Wright, Greg Slaughter, and Carl Tamayo, who won a championship in his maiden season in the tourney.
Fast-rising Rhenz Abando, Justin Gutang, RJ Abarrientos and SJ Belangel are all playing in the Korean Basketball League.
