Veteran Filipino darters Christian Perez and Lourence Ilagan continued to impress as the duo waylaid Adam Gawlas and Karel Sedlacek of the Czech Republic, 4-1, to advance to the Round of 16 in the MyDiesel Claim 2023 World Cup Darts (WCD) in Frankfurt, Germany on Friday, June 16.
After losing their opening match with the 13th-seeded Czech rivals, the Filipino tandem then went berserk, winning the next four matches to seal their place in the playoff round of the event that drew 40 countries.
However, Perez and Ilagan will have a daunting task in the next round as they will be up against the dangerous pair of Gary Anderson and Peter Wright of Scotland.
Anderson was a former world No. 1 while Wright is currently ranked No. 2.
However, Perez, the rising star of Koronadal City in South Cotabato, is coming off an impressive quarterfinal finish in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Pro Tour in Hildesheim.
