The University of Perpetual Help men’s and women’s volleyball teams showed once again they are the “boss” at the Home of the Altas Gym in Pamplona III.
The Lady Altas reigned supreme in the Philippine University Volleyball League (PUVL) last Sunday in Las Piñas City.
Mentored by Sandy Rieta, the Lady Altas survived the spirited challenge of the Mapua Lady Cardinals, 25-20, 25-19, 29-27, to the win crown for the second straight season.
Fittingly, Shaila Omipon of Trece Martires City was named MVP and 1st Best outside spiker following her consistent showing.
Not to be left out was NCAA MVP Mary Rhose Dapol who emerged as the 2nd Best outside spiker while Jhasmine Sapin took the Best setter award.
Other awardees were Marian Andal (Best Libero), Winnie Bedaña (1st middle blocker), Nicole Ong of Mapua U (2nd Best middle blocker), Therese Manalo of Mapua (Best opposite blocker)
Rieta was expectedly named Coach of the Year.
The Altas encountered rough sailing in the first two matches before coming through with a torrent of powerful spikes to complete a 25-20, 25-20, 25-12 win over the De La Salle University (DLSU) Dasma and retain their crown.
Altas playmaker JC Enarciso was named Season MVP and Best setter, NCAA MVP Louie Ramirez adjudged as 1st Best Outside Spiker, Paul Malaiba of DLSU-D for 2nd Outside Spiker, Valeriano Sasis of DLSU-D got 1st Best Middle Blocker, Michael Medalla of UPH for 2nd Best Middle Blocker, Klint Mateo named Best Opposite Spiker, and Roma Decena of DLSU-D for Best Libero.
