Defending champion Creamline romped to a 25-18, 25-11, 25-12 win over newcomer Gerflor in Pool A of the PVL Invitational Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Thursday, June 29.
In a follow up to their massive win over the talent-laden Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Tuesday, the Cool Smashers needed just one frame to warm up as Tots Carlos once again led the team’s well-balance attack to give Alyssa Valdez a fitting birthday present.
After coming off with a 24-point outing the last time, Carlos scattered 15 points on 13 attacks, a block and an ace as Creamline took the early lead in the 13-team tournament.
Carlos was ably supported by Jema Galanza, who contributed 10 points built on eight attacks and two aces.
And Valdez?
She marked her 30th birthday with four points in a two-set stint after a three-point effort in her comeback game from a long layoff due to knee injury.
Actually coach Sherwin Meneses never really needed to draw much from his skipper given the depth of their bench that proved too much for the Defenders to overcome.
After a little resistance in the first set, Creamline dominated the second set as they fired on all cylinders – a scenario that also happened in the third set.
“Medyo slow start kami pero naka-recover naman kami. Talagang nag-contribute ‘yong mga players, so happy kami sa game na to at happy kami sa panalo,” said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses.
