Multi-titled Jamesray Michael Ajido and Amina Bungubung secured spots in the Philippine team after their strong performances in the Luzon National Tryouts held over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Swimming Center.
Ajido, 14, lived up to his lofty status by topping both the boys 14-15 200m Individual Medley and 100m butterfly clocking 2:14.33 and 57.46 seconds, respectively.
Both times bettered the qualifying time standards of 2:14.83 and 58.43.
He also claimed the gold in the 100m backstroke by clocking 1:01.73 but failed to surpass the QTS (1:01.30) in the event graced by Philippine Swimming Inc. (PSI) President Miko Vargas and secretary general and Batangas Rep. Eric Buhain.
Likewise gaining a berth in the national team that will take part in the 35th Southeast Asia Age Group Championship slated Aug. 24-26 in Jakarta, Indonesia was Bungubung.
Also a member of the Quezon City Buccaneers Swim Club like Ajido, Bungabung, 16, reigned in the girls 16-18 50m freestyle, posting a time of 27.58 to pass the QTS of 27.69.
Their QBSC teammates Mishka Sy and Jalil Taguinod also shone in the event supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Speedo with the former besting the QTS in girls 16-18 200m fly (2:29.07) and 200m back (2:29.86) via an impressive time of 2:24.36 and 2:29.54, respectively.
Taguinod, on the other hand, triumphed in the boys 16-18 50m breast after clocking 29.88, just enough to beat QTS of 29.89.
Also claiming ‘provisionary’ status in the squad while awaiting the results of Northern Luzon qualifying and Visayas tryouts which will be simultaneously held on July-21-23 in Vigan, Ilocos Sur and Dumaguete, respectively, are Prince Dave Calma, Catherine Cruz, Lance Rafael Cruz, Peter Cyrus Dean, Ivo Nikolai Enot, Aishel Evangelista, Bea Mabalay, Estifano Ramos, Patricia Mae Santos,Arabella Taguinota, and Jie Angela Talosig.
