Many were delighted with Kai Sotto’s much-awaited debut with the Orlando Magic in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas Friday (Manila time).
One of them was Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson.
Moments after the game that saw the 7-foot-3 Sotto tally 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks and an assist in a little over 13 minutes of action, Clarkson retweeted his fellow Gilas pool member’s highlight reel on Twitter.
And he wrote: “Solid performance, keep grinding away!”
By any standard, Sotto’s numbers were not big enough.
The Magic even lost badly to the Portland Trail Blazers, 88-71, but Clarkson was happy to see Sotto finally show his stuff before the watchful eyes of NBA team representatives – all of them trying to dissect Sotto’s every move.
Clarkson’s nice words on Sotto were understandable, though.
They played beautiful music together in Gilas’ 84-46 drubbing of Saudi Arabia in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in August last year.
Hopefully, the two will don the PH colors in the coming FIBA World Cup next month which the country will be co-hosting with Japan and Indonesia.
