World Cup of Pool champions Johann Chua and James Aranas advanced to the Round of 64 of the European Open Pool Championship by pulling off contrasting wins Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Hotel Esperanto in Fulda, Germany.
Chua came through with tough shots to complete a remarkable come-from-behind 9-8 win over former Euro Tour champ Robert Hybler ,
Given a ghost of a chance in their race-to-9 contest after falling behind, 8-4, Chua brought his supporters to life after producing a scintillating run of great shots that left his rival shaking his head in disbelief.
In the 14th rack, Hybler had an opportunity to close out the match as he tried to hit the No. 8 ball behind the No. 9.
Unfortunately, Hybler committed a foul, paving the way for Chua’s final assault.
Up next for the boyish-looking Bacolod pride is Scottish Jayson Shaw.
Aranas, on the other hand, hardly encountered trouble in beating Mickey Krause of Denmark, 9-4.
Aranas, however, needs to raise his game a notch higher as he will go up against American Shane Van Boening in the next round.
