Gela Atayde. together with the rest of Legit Status, made the country proud winning the top plum of the Megacrew Division of the World Hiphop Dance championships.
This early, many are already crowning her the new “Dance Princess.”
How does she feel about it?
She answered, “It would be great to have that title especially the dance part of it. My biggest dream is to introduce dance into the industry so, yeah.”
Asked what she believes was their winning factor as a group, Gela related, “Our eagerness and the perseverance to get there were the reasons why we won.”
Gela is set to carve a niche as actress soon.
She is appearing in her first series for ABS-CBN titled “Senior High.”
The 21-year-old is happy about it as it also stars her mom, awarded actress Sylvia Sanchez.
All that said, Gela is hopeful she will get to do a project that will highlight local dance culture.
“One of the big reasons why I really wanted to enter also showbiz was to introduce dance to local audiences. I feel like as a dancer, that it is not as appreciated as we all want to be.”
“So I guess for me since I was given the opportunity to do it, I want to explore and show everyone what actually dance is all about — not just hiphop but maybe exploring other styles so that it can be talked about more often,” she added.
“My main goal is to be able to make at least a movie or a series about dancing or anything related to dance.”
Gela is not worried about people comparing her acting abilities to that of her mom or her siblings Arjo and Ria.
She said, “I think there will be circumstances that we will be compared and I’m not scared because I will deliver.”
“I want to think I am lucky because I have dance that set me apart from my siblings and mom. No pressure from them. I think I don’t have anything to prove,” Gela added.
She admitted her deep dive into acting came following her mom’s inspiration.
“I was inspired by my mother watching her while she’s working during her tapings. I still have so much to learn.”
The third year AB Communication Arts student from De La Salle University is very thankful to the support of her family, relatives, friends and the Legit Status in her new career path as actress.
