The Philippines overpowered South Korea, 11-1, and advanced to the super round of the Under-18 Women’s Softball Asia Cup at the Pingtan Softball Stadium in Fujian, China on Thursday, Aug. 31.
The PH softbelles, represented by top Bacolod players, needed a five-run onslaught in the second inning to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 5-1 upperhand and never looked back to enhance their bid for a World Cup berth.
The Filipinas then scored two more runs in the third inning and another four in the fourth – thanks largely on the throwing and fielding errors by their rivals that sealed their second win in three starts.
The top three finishers in the event will earn berths to next year’s World Cup.
For the Filipinos to make it to the top 3, they have to beat powerhouses Japan and Chinese Taipei.
It was also a win that helped the Blu Girls get back on their feet after absorbing a stinging 11-0 rout at the hands of the host Chinese the day before.
The Philippines opened their campaign with a 7-0 rout of Hong Kong last Sunday.
Comprising the team are Daniela Cabangon, Che-Restcel Dela Cruz, Jeryll Duller, Ciarina Daniela Eder, Shein Espinosa, Trisha Karyl Hicayen, Angelica Jean Latriz, Rhea Manalo, Magdalene Nangan, Eileen Polvorido and Laira Dianne Silverio.
