Free agent star Jeron Teng agreed to a two-year deal with San Miguel Beer, a team his father Alvin helped win a Grand Slam in 1989.
Almost a month after parting ways with his former team Converge, Teng who just recently tied the knot with partner Jeanine Tsoi, found himself joining the Beermen just in time before the new PBA season which unwraps on Nov. 5.
He signed the deal in the presence of SMC Sports director Alfrancis Chua and agent Danny Espiritu on Wednesday, Oct. 18
Teng is expected to play alongside SMB stars June Mar Fajado, CJ Perez and Terrence Romeo, although might have to earn his minutes in the loaded wing rotation that also featured Jericho Cruz, Marcio Lassiter, and Allyn Bulanadi.
The 6-foot-2 former De La Salle standout recorded 13.63 points, 4.25 rebounds and 3.63 assists per game in the PBA on Tour for Converge which also let go of another star in Maverick Ahanmisi during the offseason.
Ahanmisi, incidentally also ended up landing on the SMC’s lap after signing with Barangay Ginebra.
SMB head coach Jorge Gallent will still have plenty of time to integrate Teng to his system as the Beermen will not make their season debut until Nov. 15 when they take on the NLEX Road Warriors.
