Chery Tiggo drew inspired games from Laure sisters and toppled Galeries Tower, 25-14, 25-15, 25-21, for its second win in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Second All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City, Thursday, Oct. 19.
Sisters EJ and Eya starred for the Crossovers after finishing with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
EJ, for her part, highlighted her performance with 13 attacks, while Eya delivered an all-around effort of nine attacks, two blocks and a service ace.
Chery Tiggo hardly encountered problem in the first two sets before the Galeries Tower came to its senses in the third frame.
Up 13-7 in the third set on an EJ crosscourt, the Crossovers couldn’t completely pull away for good unlike in the first two sets.
Eventually, Galeries Tower managed to pull itself within just one after Dimdim Pacres’ back-to-back points, 18-19.
After engaging in some back-and-forth in the closing stages of the match, Pacres, for the last time closed the gap after outsmarting the blockers with a drop ball, 20-21.
However, Cess Robles, who came in midway in the third set, also made a good account of herself as she brought Chery Tiggo to the match point with a timely block on the surging Pacres followed by a powerful crosscourt hit for a 24-20 assurance.
Though Raprap Aguilar saved one for the Highrisers, Robles, with her key plays, punctuated the match off a combination play.
Pacres paced Galeries Tower with 11 points on 11 kills as the long bright spot.
The PVL newcomer remained winless in two games.
