Eager to grab a piece of the pop pie is singer-songwriter Cool Cat Ash.
Real name Ashley Aunor, she is related to, you guessed it, the one and only Superstar Nora Aunor.
Ashley or Ash, is the daughter of Maribel Aunor, who also carved a niche for herself musically in the 70s.
She also has a famous sister in Marion Aunor.
But why is she not keen on using the family popular surname if only for cachet?
Ash told us, “I kind of want to strike out on my own. I’m proud of my heritage but I want to earn recognition for my efforts.”
So what’s the idea behind her moniker?
“I grew up liking so many of those 50s-inspired films like ‘Grease’ and I kind of liked the way they compliment people with the phrase, ‘You’re a cool cat’ and I appropriated it because it goes well with my nickname Ash.”
After releasing several singles, Cool Cat Ash is now out with album “i find love. so. so. Weird.”
She is quite proud of the collection which includes 11 original tracks that she herself wrote and produced deeming it a “labor of love.”
“I didn’t expect I’d be able to come out with a full album and I’m thankful that Star Music believed in me and supported me. They kept encouraging me to write more songs and here they are.”
The titular track “i find love. so. so. weird” is about that, well, weird feeling of loving someone.
“I find the idea of love so weird. Medyo allergic ako sa romantic love. I feel like maybe I’m just too scared of being open and vulnerable? I don’t know. It also touches on that aspect of people putting pressure on you to find someone.”
Cool Cat Ash began her musical journey at a very young age.
However, she had to put her career on pause to focus on her studies.
Now, she is taking a degree in music production at Berklee College of Music Boston while also working as a songwriter, producer, sound engineer, and DJ.
She was hailed as Rock Artist of the Year at the PMPC Star Awards 2022 and Novelty Artist of the Year last 2021 while her song “Mataba” won Novelty Song of the Year.
She is also a part of the songwriting and production duo “Aunorable Productions” with Marion.
“i find love. so. so. weird” is now available on various music streaming platforms.
