A total of 10,500 residents of Quezon City have received financial assistance through the efforts of Quezon City Fifth District Councilor Aiko Melendez.
Melendez has also facilitated medical assistance amounting to P20 million through guarantee letters.
The actress-turned-politician was recently honored with the “National Outstanding Humanitarian and Leadership Service” award alongside Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte who was recognized as the “National Outstanding Mayor of the Philippines” by the Saludo Excellence Award.
Melendez attributed this recent achievement to meaningful collaborations with legislators and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), led by Sec. Rex Gatchalian.
She mentioned that her constituents received financial aid ranging from P1,000 to P2,000 under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis (AICS) program of the DSWD since her return as the councilor of the fifth district.
Melendez previously served as a councilor in Quezon City from 2001 to 2010.
“AICS is direct assistance provided by the DSWD to Filipinos facing crises. Our goal is to ensure that no citizen is left behind, and we will continue to strive to reach more of our fellow countrymen through this program,” said Melendez.
In the face of the ongoing inflation in the country, Melendez expressed her commitment to being the voice of those in need in Quezon City.
Among the legislators who provided AICS in the fifth district through the DSWD were Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Senator Grace Poe, Senator Robin Padilla, Senator Joel Villanueva, and Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid.
Melendez expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided by the legislators and the DSWD, benefiting approximately 10,500 residents from Quezon City.
“I am thankful that our office has become a channel for delivering assistance from the national government and our legislators to our constituents facing hardships and challenges in their lives,” Melendez stated.
Melendez also pledged to continue working with all sectors that can provide assistance to the residents of Quezon City.
