It is easy to see why so many young showbiz wannabes flock to social media.
They could easily grab attention posting inanities there.
It is a deft move.
After all, to make it in showbiz, one must be adroit enough to carve some sort of mark if only to attract the attention of industry headhunters.
But, of course, popularity doesn’t equate permanence.
Talent does.
You could be a huge hit today but if you don’t have the talent –as with the proper work ethic – you could be forgotten in a snap.
It is as such that we admire the likes of Jhassy Busran.
Only 17 years young, Jhassy is recognized not because she has been posting say, the usual dance challenges, among other frivolous things, on TikTok or YouTube.
She is recognized mainly for her efforts as actress.
Jhassy won the Jury Award Best of the Best Performance by an actress in the Manhattan Film Festival New York 2021 for the award-winning short film “Pugon.”
She was also the Best Child Actress at the Gully International Film Festival 2021 in India; Best Child Actress at the Ashoka international Film Festival 2021, and the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Movie at the World Class Excellence Japan Awards (WCEJA).
Many believe she would be able to repeat her success via her new film “Unspoken Letters,” which has her playing a character with intellectual disorder.
“Honestly po, I feel very overwhelmed po kasi dream role ko po ito talaga,” Jhassy told us.
Asked why, she said, “I think it will challenge my abilities talaga as an actress and I think makakatulong po ito sa hangarin ko na maging versatile po in my craft.”
More than anything though, Jhassy is hoping the film will resonate among Pinoys.
“I feel kasi na may need po,” she said. “Kailangan po nating maintindihan ang mga taong may ganitong disabilities, yung may special needs. Kasi marami po sila and they need our love, our understanding.”
Apart from Jhassy, “Unspoken Letters” stars Tonton Gutierrez, Matet De Leon, Gladys Reyes, Glydel Mercado, and Simon Ibarra.
The film, under Utmost Creatives, also features Daria Ramirez, Orlando Sol, Deborah Sun, John Hendrick, Dennah Bautista, Lotlot Bustamante, Deon Bautista, Stanley Abuloc, Angel Laco, Dwayne Bialoglovski, Princess Bustamante, Sean Guyamin, Edmund Santiago, Dhnnel Manaois, and Choline Baustista, MJ Manuel and Kristine Samson.
“Unspoken Letters” opens in cinemas December 13.
