There are some excellent films that didn’t make it to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
The tearjerker “In His Mother’s Eyes” is among them.
The reunion project of longtime pals Maricel Soriano and Roderick Paulate is a family drama focusing on a brother and a sister and a young man with special needs.
According to Roderick, it is a “must-watch.”
“Hindi lang po dahil ito ay pelikula namin,” he intoned. “May magandang mensahe ang pelikula na sa tingin ko e, akma sa mga magkakapatid na hindi nagkakasundo.”
Maricel added, “Napakaganda po ng pelikula. Sabi ko nga, puwedeng gumawa ng kahit anong pelikula pero siyempre iba kapag ito ay may laman, may kabuluhan.”
We were able to catch the trailer and we were impressed.
Both Roderick and Maricel are tried and tested when it comes to drama.
Here, they showed they can still more than hack it.
A huge surprise is co-star LA Santos, who is making his feature film debut.
Some say he is going to become an important actor some day.
He said, “Aaminin ko kabado po ako talaga the first time I learned na sina Tito Roderick and Tita Maricel ang makakasama ko rito. Sana panoorin po ninyo at kayo na po ang mag-judge if I did good working alongside them.”
So how was it playing the role of a person with special needs, we asked LA.
“It was a huge challenge po talaga and I’m thankful sa support na binigay sa akin mga co-stars ko at siyempre ng director namin na si FM Reyes.”
Note that prior LA revealed he has been diagnosed with level 2 autism.
Reminded of this, he said, “Nakatulong siya in a way because I have a deeper level of understanding about people in the spectrum. Pero siyempre, iba ang real life sa pelikula kasi there are certain artistic considerations relating the portrayal.”
Also starring Maila Gumila, Ogie Diaz, Ruby Ruiz, Elyson de Dios, Vivoree, Reign Parani, Rochelle Pangilinan, Inah Evans and Bong Gonzales, “In His Mother’s Eyes,” as produced by 7K Entertainment, opens in cinemas November 29.
