Barangay Ginebra guard LA Tenorio seemed to be finally making his PBA comeback after being activated and included in the Kings lineup on Thursday, Nov. 30, just in time before their game against Terrafirma on Sunday, Dec. 3.
Kings head coach Tim Cone revealed over the weekend that the team is looking at Sunday’s game as a possible return for Tenorio who took a break from basketball after he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer last March.
The plan seemed to be already set in stone with Tenorio taking the place of Aljun Mariano who was then placed to the team’s unrestricted free agents list.
The veteran guard, who underwent a series of treatment and medication for six months, has been cleared of cancer as early as September but opted to spend the last few weeks in strengthening and getting his condition back.
Still on his way to regaining top form, Tenorio didn’t step too far away from basketball, serving as an assistant to Cone during the Gilas Pilipina’ gold medal conquest in the Asian Games.
Tenorio last saw action in the PBA when Ginebra defeated Blackwater, 119-93 last Feb. 19 in the elimination round of the last season’s Governors’ Cup.
He then missed the next game against Meralco, ultimately ending his PBA Ironman streak of playing for 774 games.
