Centro Escolar University extended its dynasty in the Season 54 of the WNCAA to 11 years after winning the senior’s women’s basketball tournament on Sunday, Dec. 10.
The Lady Scorpions stung the San Beda University-Alabang Red Lions with a 68-46 win in the Finals at the Chiang Kai Shek College Gym.
CEU came through with a backbreaking third quarter explosion that saw the Scorpions outscore the Red Lions, 21-12, to turn a 35-24 lead into a massive 20-point lead, 56-36 heading into the payoff period.
Krizzyann Bautista was at the forefront of that assault to finish with 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals to earn the Finals Most Valuable Players honors.
It capped a stellar season for CEU which also dominated the season’s individual awards.
Averaging 26 points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals all throughout the season, Hannah Mae Gumapo was hailed as the season MVP and joined three other Scorpions in the Mythical Five.
Jessica Mahusay, Diane Defeles and Jacerylle Anne Britania were the other CEU players while Kyle Mappala from University of Asia and the Pacific completed the five.
