The Akari Chargers have parted ways with Brazilian head coach Jorge Souza de Brito, the team announced on Thursday, Dec. 14.
In a statement posted on social media, the team management said it has accepted the resignation of de Brito effective on Friday, Dec. 15.
The management also offered its “sincere appreciation, thanking him for his time and service during the four conferences he has served as the head tactician of this young, promising team.”
“We wish Coach Jorge the best of luck in his future endeavors,” the statement read.
De Brito, also the head coach of the national women’s volleyball team, joined the Chargers in their inaugural campaign last year where they placed eighth in the Reinforced Conference.
The team also settled for eighth in the First All-Filipino Conference early this year, before plummeting to 10th in the Invitational Conference a few months ago.
In the ongoing Second All-Filipino Conference, the Chargers fell short of advancing to the semifinals and landed at seventh out of 12 teams after the elimination round with a 5-6 win-loss record.
Akari has yet to reveal De Brito’s replacement, but assured supporters that it is doing its best to further improve the future of the team.
“More announcements will follow soon regarding the new direction the Akari Chargers will take moving forward,” the statement read.
