Former College of St. Benilde star guard Migs Oczon made a good account of himself in his Korean Basketball League debut, helping Ulsan Hyundai beat Daegu KOGAS, 90-83 at the Daegu Gymnasium on Sunday, Dec. 31.
Oczon finished with four points, two rebounds, and an assist in eight minutes of playing for the Phoebus, outshining fellow Filipino SJ Belangel, who ended up scoreless for the Pegasus side.
The 23-year-old cager got his first foray to professional basketball when he was fielded in during the second quarter of the contest. Oczon made an immediate impact scoring on a layup with less than a minute burned from the clock since his entry to give his team a 29-23 advantage.
Ulsan held its ground strong, taking a 67-58 lead at the break before Daegu went on a third quarter flurry spearheaded by former Bay Area Dragons import Andrew Nicholson to tie the game 71-all heading into the payoff period.
Oczon though broke the deadlock with a pair of free throws to give the lead back to Ulsan before the team slowly dictated the tempo in the waning minutes behind Gaige Prim who exploded with 26 points to go along with eight rebounds
Ulsan improved its record to 13-14 in sixth place while Daegu fell to a 7-20 card. Oczon and Co. will have a 5-day break before facing Dave Ildefonso and his Suwon KT Sonicboom on Saturday, Jan. 6.
