Chery Tiggo is beefing up its roster for the upcoming 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season after it acquired veteran spiker Aby Maraño from the disbanded F2 Logistics Cargo Movers.
The team made the announcement Tuesday, Jan. 2, an hour after it also disclosed its acquisition of Ara Galang also from the Cargo Movers.
“Ready. Set. Tyang! Mothers, sisters, even fathers – and now, a swishy in the CHERY fam! Welcome to the CHERY Tiggo Crossovers, Aby Maraño!” the post read.
Marano said she is excited to join the Crossovers, saying: “Actually, naeexcite talaga ako to be a part of Chery Tiggo, parang ‘pag nagda-drive ka lang di’ba, parang ang sarap umarangkada kasama ang Chery.”
For Marano, she already knows the core of the team having played with them in the national team.
“At the same time, ‘yung mga players kasi from Chery, nakasama ko na sila from the national team — especially sina Mylene Paat, si Jasmine Nabor, si Shaya (Adorador), si Eya (Laure), (Jennifer) Nierva, and a lot more. So excited ako to be working with these players,” Marano continued.
The 28-year-old Galang, on the other hand, is seeking new challenges and experiences with a new squad for the first time in seven years.
Galang has been part of the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers since 2016 before they disbanded shortly after their campaign in the season-ending conference last month.
Their F2 teammates Dawn Macandili-Catindig and Ivy Lacsina have earlier linked up with the Cignal HD Spikers and Nxled, respectively.
“I’m very thankful because there is an opportunity like this to play for Chery, and I’m super excited because it’s the first time I’ll be with different teammates, so I joined a team where I don’t know many people,” she said.
PVL is set to kick off the new season on Feb. 17 with another All-Filipino Conference.
