The Akari Chargers are dead serious in their effort to be recognized as title contenders.
For starter, they acquired power-hitting Grethcel Soltones ahead of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season.
“New year, new charger,” the team announced on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
“The Akari Chargers welcome decorated outside spiker Grethcel Soltones. More firepower and championship experience. Let’s light it up, Lady Beast!,” it read.
Soltones was a key player for the Petro Gazz Angels in the past three seasons, helping the squad to its 2022 Reinforced Conference title victory followed by a runner-up finish in the first All-Filipino competition last year.
The 28-year-old is set to beef up the Akari rotation with holdovers Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Faith Nisperos, Fifi Sharma, Erika Raagas and Michelle Cobb.
The Chargers, who haven’t placed higher than seventh place in the competition since their inception in 2022, are looking to bring in the same success with Soltones’ addition.
