Before his exhibition match in Thailand, former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is up for another boxing task abroad after being named as honorary president of Carry Fighting Championship,.
This was announced by the tournament itself on Monday, Jan. 8.
Pacquiao, 45, will be the first to hold the position, which CFC CEO Jerry Yen believes that the former’s knowledge and experience could help them organize and promote its inaugural edition.
“[The] Carry Fighting Championship is about to become the pinnacle of Taiwanese fighting sports, and we eagerly anticipate this league that will lead Taiwan’s fighting sports into a new era,” Yen stressed on PR Newswire.
“Manny Pacquiao’s participation adds a legendary touch to the league, and we believe it will be a crucial moment for Taiwan to shine on the global fighting stage,” he added.
Taiwan Fighting Sports Co., Ltd eyes to give opportunities and to bolster aspiring Taiwanese boxers as they showcase their skills on the bigger stage. The tourney targets global attention and to bring new sports experience in their country.
The boxing icon collaborated with Taiwan Fighting Sports Co., as they aimed to deliver the first professional fighting event in Taiwan.
CFC will hold its inaugural event in March.
Meanwhile, the Sarangani native will set his foot wet anew when he battles Muay Thai legend Buakaw Banchamek on April 20, at the IMPACT Arena in Bangkok.
There is a speculation about a rematch against the flamboyant Floyd Mayweather Jr. this year.
