Koronadal City rising darts stars Hubby and Dart Decena may not see action in the Tito Soncuya Cup 2024 National Dart Tournament slated on Jan. 20 to 21.
The Decena brothers, who have consistently brought honors to the city, pointed to lack of funding as the reason for missing the national event which Marikina is hosting this weekend.
Dart was quoted on a social media post as saying: “Baka hindi po ako makalaro sa Soncuya Cup next week, sir. Next time na lang po siguro.”
Dart Decena has been tipped to bag the youth singles crown.
Both Hubby and Dart, managed to compete in several local and international tournaments in the past with the help of Engr. Ronnie Thorsten Pe before joining the Tornilyo team of the late Juanico Sonny “Afuang” Alonzo.
However, Alonzo, who helped send Mindanao players to a number prestigious tournaments in the country and overseas, passed away in February last year, leaving several dart aces without enough funding to join national events.
Dart and Hubby’s cousin, Duyane Decena and Daniel Barretto of Tornilyo team fortunately are able to join the Soncuya Cup.
