The UP Men’s Basketball Team’s (MBT) current recruiting trip has already bore fruit, with the Fighting Maroons officially welcoming into their fold Filipino-American Miguel Yniguez.
The 6-foot-5 sharpshooting wing spent the last year playing for San Francisco State in the U.S. NCAA Division II.
He now takes his talents to Diliman where he has to go through one-year residency before playing for the maroon and green beginning in UAAP Season 88. He has four years to play in the UAAPm if wishes to.
“We’re looking forward to the contributions na mabibigay ni Miguel sa’tin. Matagal na nating nakitang he can be a big help for our team so it’s good na tuloy na tuloy na nga,” said State U head coach Goldwin Monteverde.
Yniguez actually already suited up for one game for UP in the 2023 Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup in July of last year to get a good sense of the team.
Fast forward to now and his transfer has been made official during the MBT’s U.S. trip led by Monteverde and UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.
On his social media post, Yniguez said: “I am beyond blessed to announce that I am committing to the University of the Philippines. To everyone who has helped me continue my journey, maraming-maraming salamat po!”
