University of Perpetual men’s basketball team has now a touch and face of Barangay Ginebra.
A little over a week since starting his new job as Altas head coach, Olsen Racela has added veteran mentor Richard del Rosario to his staff, making them as perhaps the most popular bench tacticians in the league.
Both coaches are serving as Tim Cone’s current assistants at the Gin Kings in the pro league.
It’s understandable though as Perpetual’s team manager is no less than Ginebra superstar Scottie Thompson.
“Isang balang nadagdag sa armas ng Perpetual,” Perpetual wrote on a social media post.
“Welcome Coach Richard del Rosario to the Home of the Altas!,” the post added.
Del Rosario, 53, is a good addition to the team which is bidding to make an impact in the 100th season of the country’s oldest collegiate league.
Del Rosario is not new to amateur league having at the helm of the College of St. Benilde Blazers for three seasons (2009-2012). He also served as assistant to Caloy Garcia and Gee Abanilla from 2005 to 2008.
The Las Piñas-based squad fell short in its bid to return to the Final Four last season – no thanks to a poor start.
The team will now be anchored by Marcus Nitura and Art Roque following the departure of Jielo Razon.
