Having played away from home and far from his family, Rhenz Abando naturally has a soft spot for Overseas Filipino Workers.
The 25-year-old Abando, himself a son of an OFW, said he is aware of the sacrifices they make just to give a better future to their respective families.
“Gustong-gusto ko i-express yung mga feelings ng mga nakakausap ko na OFW. Sana gusto kong sabihin sa mga parents nila, kamag-anak nila na wag nilang abusuhin ‘yong nanay o sino mang OFW na kamag-anak nila,” Abando stressed.
The 6-foot-2 combo guard understands and appreciates her mother more and all of the overseas employees when he is staying in South Korea.
“Alam ko ‘yong hirap, nag-stay ako sa Korea. Masaya pero di naman palaging masaya, sobrang hirap din pala ng mga pinagdadaan ng mga OFW. Sana mas alagaan nila ‘yong kapamilya na OFW,” he said.
“Actually pinauwi ko na sya, tapos bumalik na ulit kasi sanay na raw sya na nagta-trabaho,” Abando said.
“Yong feeling naman is mas naramdaman ko at mas na-appreciate ko sya at mga OFW, alam kona ‘yong feeling ng mga nasa ibang bansa,” he added.
Abando is now in his second year for the Anyang KGC Boosters in the Korean Basketball League.
He, however, is sitting out on games after suffering multiple injuries last Dec. 28.
