Marcio Lassiter continues to prove that he was one of the deadliest shooters the PBA has ever seen.
The veteran made sure to cement that status on Sunday, Feb. 4 after moving past PBA great Ronnie Magsanoc and joining the top five all-time in most three points makes list.
Lassiter drilled three triples in San Miguel’s 109-85 victory over Magnolia in Game 2 of the 2023-’24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals to improve his three-points total to 1,173 treys, surpassing Magsanoc who had 1,171 to his name.
Next up for Lassiter is James Yap’s spot at fourth with 1,189 treys. Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio is at third with 1,211 while Allan Caidic and Jimmy Alapag take the lead at No. 2 and 1 spots with 1,242 and 1,250 treys respectively.
The veteran guard, who finished the contest with 11 points, just felt blessed and honored to join an elite company of shooters in the list although Lassiter also stressed that he wouldn’t be reaching the feat if not for his teammates and coaches.
“Truly blessed. This is definitely an honor, something that I wouldn’t be here without my coaches, my teammates, past and present and right now,” said Lassiter. “This is something that the team helped me get to.”
Of course, joining the elite list is also a testament to Lassiter’s longevity and the long hours he spent in the gym just to perfect his craft.
“Just trying to keep my craft going and seeing the hard work paying off. Everyday it’s a constant battle of getting better and better. I’m just blessed that to not be as injured and playing majority of the games for our team,” said Lassiter
“Just sticking to my strengths. The team needs me to stretch the floor out there to help June Mar kinda space out,” added the sharpshooter who has been shooting the lights out for the Beermen with a deadly 55 percent clip from deep in the entire playoffs.
However, the 36-year-old guard is not putting much of a thought in chasing those ahead of him, stressing that being mentioned alongside those legendary shooters is already a huge honor for him.
“It’s been one hell of a ride that we are on. This win streak for our team. I’m not really thinking just about that. If I can get to his plateau he’s one of the greatest, always honored if I can be on the same breath as those guys. Just continue to keep working and never be satisfied,” he added.
