Liza Soberano is making heads turn with her impressive performance in “Lisa Frankenstein,” her Hollywood debut.
From Focus Features and Universal Pictures International, “Lisa Frankenstein” is a fiendishly clever genre-bending romp that has Liza playing the role of Taffy, stepsister of Lisa Swallows (Kathryn Newton), a young girl given to spending time at an abandoned cemetery, specifically at the grave of a young man (Cole Sprouse) who died decades earlier.
It’s actually a sardonic spin on Mary Shelley’s 1818 classic, but this time “Lisa Frankenstein” allows audiences to travel back to 1989 where the main character accidentally reanimates the dead young man during a lightning storm.
The narrative unfolds as the pair embark on a darkly humorous journey seeking love, happiness, and a few missing body parts.
Liza is quite excited to be part of the film.
She said, “It’s the kind of movie I’ve always wanted to do. It has horror, comedy, and romance in one. I was looking for a role that would really push me.”
“Sure, it’s a huge risk for my career, but that’s what’s exciting about it. I know I’ve learned a lot no matter how it turns out. That’s what counts,” she added.
To be clear: Fans should expect a different Liza in this film.
Her Taffy is far removed from previous roles.
The film also features notable actors like Joe Chrest, Henry Eikenberry, and Carla Gugino.
From Focus Features and Universal Pictures International, “Lisa Frankenstein” opens February 7 in cinemas nationwide.
