PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial gave Magnolia star Calvin Abueva a stern warning after being involved once again in a series spat on and off the court during the Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
The league chief warned the veteran forward of possibly getting suspended once again if he continued with his old antics that saw him get into several altercations with San Miguel head coach Jorge Gallent during Game 2 and the wife of Mo Tautuaa afterwards.
“Sinabihan ko siya, sinabi ko Calvin yung ugali mo ulit ah kaya kita binan nun dahil sa mga gestures na pinaggagawa mo okay naman sa akin yung maano ka sa court pero tigilan mo ying mga discrimination mga antics and gesture,” shared Marcial before the start of Game 3.
“Baka i-ban kita ulit diyan o kaya i-suspend,” added Marcial to which Abueva replied: ‘“Comm, di na po ulit mangyayari yun.”
“Tandaan mo lang,” the stern warning from the league chief.
The Commissioner’s Office cracked the whip on Abueva, slapping him with a P100,000 fine after being caught mocking the visual disability of Gallent.
Under league rules, “any person who offends the dignity of any person on account of physical disability shall be subject to a fine not lower than P100,000.”
It can be recalled that Abueva had been met with an indefinite suspension that spanned 16 months also due to his involvement in several on-court incidents when he was still with Phoenix.
Abueva was then handed disciplinary actions after directing obscene gestures to a fan and clotheslining then TNT import Terrence Jones.
The Beast though made sure to make amends with Gallent and was seen personally approaching and apologizing to the SMB tactician before the start of Game 3.
Abueva also seemed to have put the controversies behind and put his focus on the contest. The Hotshots forward was not involved in any spat and finished with six points, seven rebounds and a block.
