MIAMI (AFP) — The New York Knicks acquired Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks in a deal with the NBA’s bottom team, the Detroit Pistons, at Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
In exchange, the Knicks sent four players — Ryan Arcidiacono, Malachi Flynn, Quentin Grimes and Frenchman Evan Fournier plus two second-round NBA Draft picks to Detroit.
Croatian forward Bogdanovic, 34, joined the Pistons in 2022 after spells with Utah, Indiana, Washington and three years with the Brooklyn Nets.
Burks is another well-travelled veteran who returns for a second spell with the Knicks after leaving for Detroit in July 2022.
“We’re thrilled to add Bojan Bogdanovic to the Knicks family and welcome back Alec Burks. Bojan brings a tremendous amount of basketball experience to our team, both from the NBA and internationally,” said Knicks president Leon Rose.
“He is an elite scorer who has solidified himself as one of the best shooters in the NBA, which will complement our team.
“Alec played an integral role throughout our 2020-21 playoff season, understands and embraces the culture here, and will bring a lot of value to our group.”
On a busy trade deadline day for Detroit, the Pistons also acquired Italian small forward Simone Fontecchio from the Utah Jazz.
Kevin Knox moves to the Jazz as part of the trade along with the rights to Gabriele Procida, another Italian player currently playing for Alba Berlin in Germany.
The 28-year-old Fontecchio spent a decade in Italian and European basketball before joining the Jazz in 2022.
The Pistons also brought in Danuel House Jr. from the Philadelphia 76ers along with a 2024 second-round pick and cash considerations with the 76ers receiving a 2028 second round pick.
The Toronto Raptors said they have acquired guard Spencer Dinwiddie from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for German guard Dennis Schroeder and forward Thaddeus Young.
The Raptors also brought in forward-center Kelly Olynyk and guard Ochai Agbaji from the Utah Jazz in exchange for guard Kira Lewis Jr., forward Otto Porter Jr. and a 2024 first-round draft pick.
ESPN reported the Dallas Mavericks were hoping to acquire center Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards and forward P.J. Washington from the Charlotte Hornets.
Sources told ESPN that the Mavericks have agreed to send center Richaun Holmes and draft compensation to the Wizards for Gafford while trading forward Grant Williams, guard Seth Curry and a 2027 first-round draft pick to the Hornets for Washington.
