Change is coming at Letran after the Intramuros-based squad appointed Allen Ricardo as interim coach of its men’s squad for the NCAA Season 100, the team announced on Friday, Feb. 16.
Ricardo, who guided Letran’s junior basketball team to a historic championship last season, will replace Rensy Bajar who had a forgettable showing with the Knights last season.
Ricardo will remain as the Squires mentor until the school management finds an able replacement.
Good thing for the Knights, Ricardo is a Letran alumnus.
Before Bajar took over as Letran coach, the Knights won three straight championships under the brilliant stewardship of Bonnie Tan.
But the Knights’ amazing show came to a painful end – winning only two games in 18 games for their worst showing in decades.
With a new coach and a new backer, the Knights are hoping to form a formidable team, one that is capable of reliving their glory days in the country’s oldest collegiate league.
Ricardo, however, will have his hands full.
For one, he has to hurriedly look for the best available players around to be able to form one big fighting unit after the graduation of star player Kurt Reyson.
