John Cabang Tolentino kept his ambitious bid alive after advancing to the semifinals in the men’s 60-meter hurdles in the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday, March 2.
The 22-year-old Fil-Spaniard clocked 7.72 seconds to finish fourth in his heat, enough to earn him a ticket to the 24-player round scheduled early Sunday, March 3 (Manila time).
American Grant Holloway topped the qualifiers with 7.43sec, followed by Frenchmen Wilhem Belocian (7.47sec) and Just Kwaou-Mathey (7.52sec).
Cabang, who just reset the national indoor record at 7.64sec last month, will be racing in Heat 3 of the semis composed of Finland’s Elmo Lakka, Mali’s Richard Diawara, China’s Zhu Shenglong, Italy’s Lorenzo Ndele Simonelli, Poland’s Jakub Szymanski, Netherlands’ Job Geerds and Holloway.
