After their impressive performances in the 11th Asian Age Group Championships, swimmers Heather White and Jasmine Mojdeh seek spots in the Philippine team when they compete in the Southeast Asian games qualifiers starting in August.
The Fil-British White, who is based in Vietnam, said she will not waste the time and opportunity to further bolster her skills to achieve more accolades in the future.
“I was glad I achieved what I was capable of. I’m trying to aim for the SEA Games and I know there’s a qualifier in August, so for the next couple of months I’m going to be practicing and training really hard for [SEAG],” said White, who reaped two bronze medals in the said Asian event held recently in Capas, Tarlac.
The 16-year-old tanker also underscored the lessons she learned after competing in the said championships, which was participated in by more than 1,300 swimmers across the region.
“I learned how to cope up with my nerves, how to deal with stress as well as how to recover between my races. Because this meet feels like a long marathon for me because I have this event after event,” White said.
The same holds true for Mojdeh, 17, who won the bronze in the girls’ 15-17 200m butterfly.
“I’ll join the tryouts of the Philippine team for the SEAG and hopefully [makasama ako] na i-represent ang Pilipinas in Thailand next year,” Mojdeh said, who recently committed to University of Southern California.
Aside from White and Mojdeh, Jamesray Ajido led the Philippine team with three medals, including one gold, one silver and one bronze medal as Team PH finished with a total of six medals for 12th place.
