Carlos Yulo closed out his campaign in the Baku leg of the 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series in Azerbaijan with a bronze-medal effort in his pet event floor exercise on Saturday, March 9.
The two-time world champion scored 14.366 for a podium finish behind eventual gold medalist Yahor Sharamkou, who bagged the gold medal with 14.933, and Japanese Kazuki Minami, who clinched the silver with 14.666.
Yulo’s feat came a day after failing to advance in the vault final after landing 21st, as well as in horizontal bar and pommel horse, where he finished 16th and 41st, respectively.
It was a far cry from his two gold medals he won in the same leg in vault and parallel bars last year, and three golds, one silver and one bronze medal overall in the four-leg series.
It was also the first tournament for Yulo since seeing action in the world championships last September.
He is competing without a coach after severing ties with longtime Munehiro Kugimiya also last year.
