The Senate on Wednesday, March 13, ratified the harmonized version of a bill authored by Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. doubling the teaching allowance for public school teachers.
Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., chairperson of the Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Regulation, happily announced this recently, sharing the good news that the provisions in his “Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act” increases the 5,000 pesos Teaching Allowance to 10, 000 pesos.
It’s a big blessing for teachers whom Sen. Revilla calls “Heroes” for their selflessness.
Sen. Revilla adds, “Teaching has already evolved, which adds up to more demands on our teachers’ shoulders, to be more effective in their jobs. We don’t want to burden them with paying for the gadgets used in class.”
The teachers are grateful to Sen. Revilla for pushing the proposal.
Representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd), Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), Teachers Dignity Coalition (TDC), and the Philippine Public School Teachers Association (PPSTA) were at the gallery during the ratification of the bicam report.
They couldn’t help but feel emotional sharing how they have been praying for it as early as the 16th Session of the Congress.
They now consider Sen. Revilla “The Teachers’ Champion.”
Sen. Revilla on his part, is “honored to have been instrumental in achieving this blessing for teachers who are forever our heroes.”
“This victory belongs to you and to all the youth you embrace and enrich with your service,” he added.
“Our dear teachers have long waited for the passage of this measure that institutionalizes the granting of the teaching allowance. From the very beginning, we recognize their incomparable sacrifice and concern for our students whether inside or outside the school.”
He promised: “This is not the end yet, but rather the beginning of more steps toward surefire progress and reforms.”
The teachers will soon enjoy the benefits once President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. signs it.
Note the bill is among top legislative priorities of Sen. Revilla.
