Rising star Amiel Acido made history for University of Perpetual Help after winning the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the NCAA Season 99 juniors basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Wednesday, March 20.
The feat made Acido the first-ever Junior Altas to win the highest individual award since the school joined the league four decades ago.
For his sustained brilliance since the team’s opening day triumph, Acido, 19, posted a Player Average Value of 57.22 to win the trophy in runaway fashion.
He averaged 17.6 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists per contest.
Acido’s teammates – Jhames Daep (48.88) and Mark Gojo Cruz (47.11) finished far second and fourth, respectively.
Letran’s George Diamante Jr. wound up third (48.55), and EAC’s EJ Castillo fifth (44.44).
They were also named in the Mythical 5 selection.
With Acido, Daep and Cruz leading the way, the Las Pinas-based squad topped the elims with an 8-1 mark.
Acido (10.66) and Daep (10.11) were also part of the Defensive team alongside Diamante Jr. (10.77), JRU’s Martin Pineda (12.33) and Paul Enal (12.5), who secured the Defensive player plum.
Cruz took home Rookie of the Year trophy while Castillo earned the Most Improved Award, beating Daniel Padilla of the Squires.
The Lyceum Junior Pirates accepted the Sportsmanship Award.
