Creamline regained its usual fiery form as it dismantled Capital1, 25-18, 25-14, 25-15, on Thursday, March 21, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Cool Smashers repelled the persistent attempts of the Solar Spikers in the opening frame before dictating the tempo throughout to clinch their fifth win in six games.
The victory not only eased the pain Creamline suffered from stinging three-set defeat to Chery Tiggo last week, but also tightened its grip on the top spot.
Cool Smashers coach Sherwin Meneses shuffled his lineup to find new combination plays and succeeded with Tots Carlos unleashing 12 kills to finish with 14 points.
Bernandeth Pons started in the second set and came off the bench in third, but was still able to deliver seven points, all from the attack line.
Skipper Alyssa Valdez, Michele Gumabao and Jema Galanza also provided ample support posted five points apiece.
The triumph overshadowed the resilient efforts of Jorelle Singh, who topscored for 14 points in her attempt to halt Capital1’s two-game losing skid.
The Solar Spikers actually showed promise after keeping the match close early, but unforced errors particularly at the service area disrupted any momentum they were about to get.
Not only were they unable to make a single ace in 48 attempts, but they also gave up 24 points on errors in the 78-minute affair.
Patty Orendain also tried to give Singh a helping hand, but her eight-point output was not enough.
