Three-peat champion University of Perpetual Help remains as the title favorite in the NCAA Season 99 volleyball tournament which kicks off this Sunday, April 7, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City.
The Altas spikers of veteran head coach Sammy Acaylar are poised for their fourth consecutive men’s volleyball title as they parade an intact roster led by reigning MVP Louie Ramirez, Michael Medalla, KC Andrade, Jeff Marapoc, JC Enarciso and Philip Pepito.
“Sa totoo lang, it’s very hard to prepare because we are defending champions, all eyes are on us, only one player ang nag-graduate is Joshua Zareño, mostly intact ang line up ko.” Coach Sammy Acaylar said in an interview.
“So far maganda naman ang pre-season namin, for the tune ups, maybe alignment nalang sa mental toughness nila ang dinidevelop ko, kapag nauunahan sila at sometimes nawawala sa focus sa laro.” Acaylar added.
Also in addition are rookies for this season in Klint Mateo, Dexter Arrozado, John Castil, Christian Taytayon and James Pascua
The core of the championship team wants to duplicate the historic title run from 2010 to 2014 with Acaylar at the helm. The Las Piñas-based spikers own a total of 13 titles.
The Altas annexed their third consecutive men’s volleyball tournament crown last year by defeating the San Beda University Red Lions in their best-of-three championship series.
