Filipino-American track ace Eric Cray is doing everything to secure a ticket to the Paris Games and winning a bronze medal in the 2024 Miramar Invitational at the Ansin Sports Complex in Florida over the weekend could be a step in the right direction.
The 35-year-old Cray clocked 50.18 in the men’s 400m hurdles to finish third behind eventual winner USA’s David Kendziera (49.65) and second-placer Yeral Nunez of Dominican Republic (49.69) in the six-man event.
He was then followed by Nigerian Rilwan Alowonle (50.82), Jamaican Marvin Williams (50.83) and Japanese Tatsuhiro Yamamoto (51.56).
Born in Olongapo City, Cray currently holds the Philippine record in 400m hurdles and 100m dash.
The undisputed SEAG Games – his reign started in 2013 edition – and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympian, Cray is determined to make it to Paris after missing the Tokyo edition in what could be his swan song.
Meanwhile, his fellow Fil-Am hopeful, Kristina Knott was so disappointed after finishing 12th overall.
