The Philippine national men’s rugby union, known as Volcanoes, has remained the hottest team in the Southeast Asian region.
In the latest World Rugby rankings which was posted last Monday, April 15, the Volcanoes are ranked No. 40 after accumulating 47.80 points, 10 rungs higher than Malaysia (45.14 points).
Singapore is third best in the region at 54th (44.05) followed by Thailand (80th, 35.49), Laos (93rd, 30.0) and Indonesia (108th, 21.95).
South Africa, as expected, is still No. 1 in the world with 94.54 followed by Ireland (90.69), New Zealand (89.90), France (87.92) and England (85.75).
The Nationals finished 9th in last year’s Hangzhou Asian Games after posting a 2-3 win-loss record in the event won by powerhouse Hong Kong.
South Korea and Japan settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
Meanwhile, the PH women’s team currently sits in between Botswana (57th, 33.30) and Luxembourg (59th, 32.83) as it posted 33.16 points.
