University of Perpetual Help showed incredible grit in the final two sets and turned back San Beda, 20-25, 25-13, 22-25, 25-17, 15-6, yesterday to breathe life to its Final Four bid in NCAA Season 99 women’s volleyball at the Filoil EcoOil Arena.
Shai Omipon was on attack mode and finished with a team-high 26 points while reigning MVP Mary Rhose Dapol scattered 17 hits, including critical ones late in the fifth and deciding set that tilted the balance in the Lady Altas’ favor.
It was UPHSD’s third win in five outings, Arellano and Mapua.
The Lady Cardinals carved out a 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 win over Jose Rizal University.
But the day belonged to Perpetual as the Altas Spikers of coach Sinfronio Acaylar remained flawless in five games with a 25-14, 25-22, 25-22 win over the Red Spikers.
Reigning MVP Louie Ramirez led the Altas Spikers with 17 points and 18 excellent receptions while Jefferson Marapoc contributed 13.
Libero John Philip Pepito had 8 digs and setter JC Enarcisco produced 22 excellent sets.
Meantime, the Junior Altas Girls completed the Final Four cast after finishing with a 3-2 record.
It also somehow soothed the pain of a heartbreaking 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 15-11 defeat to LPU Saturday in a game where Dapol went on a mammoth 35-point tear.
While Dapol scored a fewer output on this one, she made sure it was the crucial ones as she connected on three of UPHSD’s last six points to fend off San Beda’s late fightback.
