Jun Roque is staying at NCAA but is set to go back to his high school alma mater – Letran – just days after formally bidding his farewell to University of Perpetual Help.
Roque revealed the development to Tempo-Manila Bulletin on Wednesday, April 24.
“Yes bro!” Roque said in a brief reply about his move to Letran.
The 22-year-old guard, who played for two seasons with the Altas where he was named as the Most Improved Player award and Mythical Five member last year, is set to bring his act to Intramuros for the NCAA Season 101 basketball tournament.
For his Letran homecoming, Roque must serve a one-year residency and will likely skip the centennial edition before he becomes eligible to don Letran’s color.
The Kapampangan cager is a former prospect of the Letran’s junior team although he didn’t have the opportunity to compete for the Squires due to COVID-19 pandemic.
He averaged 12.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.06 assists, and 1.44 steals per game under the guidance of former Perpetual head tactician Myk Saguiguit, who was replaced by Olsen Racela in the position.
The 6-foot-4 guard will reunite with Mark Omega and Carlo Ferreras who both were his teammates in Perpetual where they almost entered the Final Four, toting a 8-10 card at fifth place.
Also transferring for the Knights are Emman Galman (CSB), Thomas Reid (UST) and Mapua’s Ryle Rosillo.
In Season 99, Letran was left at the bottom of the standings, concluding its stint with a 2-16 win-loss record a far cry to its dominant run from Seasons 96 to 98 when it completed a three-peat.
