Bryan Dy of Mentorque Productions has vowed to create more films if only to continue with their main thrust: To help revitalize the ailing local movie industry.
He told us, “The industry is still struggling and our hope is that by creating meaningful films we will be able to help attract more audiences not only here but abroad.”
“The most important thing for us is to create significant films of the highest quality and bring these out there,” he added. “It would be a huge boon not only for us but for the whole industry if at least one of these makes it mark globally.”
The company did good last year with horror-thriller “Mallari” earning raves for its “Hollywood-worthy” merits.
Bryan shared they are to continue with the same this year, intimating they have several films already in the works.
One of these, a film tentatively titled “Biringan,” is to start principal photography any time now, he said.
“We already have completed the cast, and we already have a director so, hopefully, we will be able to make an announcement about it soon.”
Also in the works is a “suspense” film that may involve Vilma Santos-Recto.
“We just had a meeting with her very recently and she is as excited about the project as us.”
Asked if one of these will be submitted as entry to the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival, Bryan maintained they are not thinking that far into the future at the moment.
“At this point, we want to make the best films we can. That’s the main thing for us. And we will keep at it. After we’ve finished with the material, it is then and only then, that we will make an announcement.”
Whatever the case maybe, Bryan remains faithful to their goal: To help enliven the local film industry.
“We like what we have achieved with ‘Mallari’ and we will continue doing that,” he said. “That’s our main thing – to provide quality films that will pique huge interest not only here, among local audiences, but the global stage as well.”
“That’s our core. And we will not compromise.”
Note that the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) is set to honor Bryan and Mentorque Productions with the Rising Producer Of The Year Award at the upcoming 7th EDDYS.
Bryan is grateful for the recognition.
He said, “It’s great news for us, of course. It’s a huge honor. It inspires us to create more films, in the process creating more opportunities for many in the industry.”
