Letran finally made official the appointment of Allen Ricardo as head coach of the rebuilding men’s team while former star and two-time PBA MVP Willie Miller was named head tactician of the Squires – the junior’s squad.
Ricardo was named as an interim mentor of Letran’s seniors last February after steering the Squires to their second straight championship in the juniors division.
He formally replaced Rensy Bajar who had a forgettable stint as Knights head coach.
Former Letran stars Rey Nambatac and Kevin Racal were also added to Letran’s coaching staff with the former appointed as Ricardo’s assistant while Racal will be Miller’s lieutenant.
After completing a rare 3-peat, the Knights made a disastrous turnaround, winning only twice in 18 games due to injuries to key players and various issues.
What made the Squires’ victory much sweeter was that they beat the top-seeded University of Perpetual Help Junior Altas.
The Knights will have their key players in Kobe Monje, Paolo Javillonar, Deo Cuajao and their new addition Titing Manalili, who played for the Letran juniors alongside Andy Gemao.
For the Squires, Marbel’s very own Syrex Silorio is expected to banner Letran’s three-peat bid.
