The Gilas Pilipinas women’s 3×3 team advanced to the quarterfinal round and kept its title bid alive in the 2024 FIBA Women’s Series in Ulanbataar, Mongolia Thursday, June 6.
The Nationals, composed of Allana Lim, Hazelle Yam, Samantha Harada and Kaye Pingol, finished their preliminary assignments with 1-2 win-loss record enough to barge into the next round.
The Filipinas will tussle Austria later today and if they manage to win over the Austrians, the Filipinas will arrange a rematch against the Ukrainians the Ukranians in the semifinal.
Ukraine is the lone team that remains unscathed in the eight-country regional tiff which is part of the global qualifiers for FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Final on Sept. 7-8 in Hangzhou, China.
Over at the other bracket, Mongolia and Thailand will lock horns with the winner setting up a semis clash with China.
Before entering the quarters, Gilas Pilipinas opened its campaign with a 10-21 defeat to Mongolia.
But they bounced back via a 21-12 triumph in their second game against the U23 cagers of the hometown team. However, they fell at the hands of Pool A top seed Ukraine, 16-21, to wrap up the pool stage.
