Outgoing winger Shaina Nitura seeks to leave a winning legacy in her last dance in an Adamson uniform after leading the Junior Lady Falcons to a 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 win over National University-Nazareth School in the 2024 Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League on Thursday at the Paco Arena.
Nitura uncorked 17 points, all from attacks, as Adamson arranged a title clash with Bacolod Tay Tung on Thursday in the country’s premier grassroots volleyball tournament backed by Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, Eurotel, Victory Liner, Smart Sports, Mikasa, Team Rebel Sports, Data Project, Genius Sports and Robinsons Malls.
But Nitura doesn’t want to put too much pressure on themselves.
“Pinapa-remind ko lang sa kanila like before, noong last GVIL po, which is rebuilding lang din kami noong time na yun. So there’s no pressure sa tournament na ‘to,” said Nitura, who has already committed to Adamson’s seniors squad.
“It’s everything to gain for Season 87 for their season sa juniors. So wala naman tong pressure, yun nga yung sinasabi ko sa kanila, but we have to gain yung tapang, and lahat ng kailangan namin makuha from this league,” added Nitura.
Adamson, which swept its way into the UAAP throne, is unbeaten in five games.
The defending Palarong Pambansa champion Bacolod Tay Tung claimed the first finals berth with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-23, triumph over Kings’ Montessori School in their own knockout semifinal.
Meanwhile, NUNS and Kings’ Montessori clash to salvage a podium finish in the battle for third.
Far Eastern University-Diliman and Arellano University are squaring off for fifth place while Bethel Academy College and Lyceum of the Philippines University duke it out for the seventh spot.
Games in the SGVIL, organized by Athletic Events and Sports Management, Inc., are available via livestream on Smart Sports and Puso Pilipinas, Aliw 23 (free TV) and Solar Sports (cable).
