Rhen Escaño is out to surprise fans in the action film “Karma”, directed by Albert Langitan.
Here, she plays Angel, an ace assassin.
Angel was 8 years old when her father was brutally killed right in front of her.
She would grow up a protector of the oppressed.
It would lead to her accidentally killing a man attempting to rob a father and his child.
With the help of her godfather, the provincial kingpin called simply as “Chief,” Angel was able to avoid serving time.
She would soon form part of Chief’s covert assassin organization which, supposedly, only targets society’s dregs.
However, in one of her missions, Angel kills a man in front of her young daughter.
Angel cannot erase from her mind the image of the girl holding her father’s lifeless body in her arms.
She remembers how she was once in the same situation.
Her remorse turns to shock when she learns that the man she killed was not a drug pusher as she was told, but an undercover police officer.
This discovery leads to more disturbing revelations about her godfather, the exact nature of their organization, and the truth behind her father’s death.
Said Rhen, “I feel like this film is an answered prayer. I’ve long wanted to move away from doing sexy films, romance films and this landed on my lap seemingly out of the blue.”
“Of course, I prepared hard for my role,” she added. “I wanted to prove to our director as with the film’s producers, that they did good picking me to play lead.”
Also starring Sid Lucero, Roi Vinzon, Krista Miller, Paolo Paraiso, Leandro Baldemor, and Mon Confiado, “Karma,” produced by Viva Films and Happy Infinite, opens in theaters June 19.
