Southeast Asian Games relay gold winner Frederick Ramirez delivered a pair of record-breaking feats to help power Jose Rizal University to a three-peat feat in the NCAA Season 99 track and field at the PhilSports Complex oval in Pasig City over the weekend.
Giving it all in his final season, Ramirez, 26, broke the 400m and 200m records in two of the three gold medals he snared in the three-day meet organized by a committee chaired by Herc Callanta of Lyceum.
Ramirez clocked 46.95 seconds in the 400m to erase the 48.03 mark he set last year and then timed in 21.43 in the 200m to eclipse the 21.93 standard Russel
“Five-peat dapat yan if hindi nagka pandemic,” said JRU coach Jojo Posadas.
It was a dominant effort by JRU as it tallied 826.5 points, way ahead of closest pursuers Mapua and AU, which wound up with 584 and 540, respectively.
University of Perpetual Help, meanwhile, reigned supreme in the juniors’ side with 804.5 followed by JRU with a 657.25 while AU third with a 503.5.
Fittingly, Perpetual’s Marvin Ramos emerged as the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player (MVP) winner after collecting crowning himself sprint and long jump prince. He also helped the team relay win the 4×100 m relay and 4×400 golds.
Marcus Aguilar of La Salle Greenhills took the Freshman of the Year award while Junior Altas coach Philip Silloco as Coach of the Year.
