Koronadal’s Christian Perez is up for another tough challenge when he vies anew in the two-day Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Players Championship in Hildesheim, Germany starting Tuesday, June 11.
For one, the proud son of Marbel will be up against 127 other tested campaigners – all excited and motivated to reach the Promised Land and claim the biggest prize in the event offering £15,000 (roughly P947,000) to the champion.
Though former world champions like Gary Anderson and Rob Cross won’t be around this time, Perez, 42, still needs to steel himself and produce extraordinary performance each game to succeed.
Of course, there will be mounting pressure as the tournament wears on but Perez is just as determined as everyone else in the event.
He won’t be the first Filipino darter to earn a PDC Pro Tour card for nothing.
Interestingly, Perez started to make a name for himself in the European tour in the same place last year that saw him reach the Event 13’s quarterfinal round after claiming the scalps of England’s Cross (6-5), Jamie Hughes (6-1), Luke Woodhouse (6-2) and Czech Karel Sedlacek (6-3).
However, England’s Connor Scutt ended his winning ways with a 6-3 win in the quarters.
Next for Perez is the European Tour Qualifier 9 & 10 on Thursday, June 13, after that he will travel to Frankfurt for the World Cup of Darts on July 27 to 30.
It can be recalled that Perez and Lourence Ilagan teamed up last year in the said tournament where they advanced to the quarterfinals.
