Gilas Pilipinas men’s basketball team soldiered on and eked out a 21-12 win over Mongolia to complete a grand sweep of the Asia 2 – Stop 5 in the FIBA 3×3 U23 Nations League at the Fengfeng Mining Area Museum in Handan Shi, China Saturday, June 15.
Rey Remogat, as expected, was splendid in the offensive end, firing seven points against the Mongolians (2-1) as the Nationals captured their third consecutive wins to remain unblemished in their daily leg tasks – for the first time in the tournament.
The Filipinos’ triumph in the leg earned them 60 Tour Points (TP) to accumulate 340 for third place in the men’s conference standings.
Mongolia is still No. 1 with 460 and followed by Japan (360).
However, on the top team will barge into the Nations League finals.
In advancing to finals, Gilas Pilipinas downed host China (20-17) and Japan (19-18).
Mongolia, meantime, survived Kazakhstan (20-19) then crushed Turkmenistan (21-12) to set up a finals meeting with the Philippines.
Next leg is crucial for the Nationals as they are gunning to boost their points. They will tussle Turkmenistan and Mongolia in the sixth and last stop Sunday, June 16, at the same ground.
